Tech CU in the Community

Several decades ago, Technology Credit Union was founded with the underlying philosophy of people helping people. Although the Credit Union has grown and evolved to become a leader in the industry, the desire to help the community that led to its foundation is still strongly present.

While Tech CU’s primary mission is to meet the financial needs of its members in the Silicon Valley (e.g. San Jose), the Credit Union is proud to be the supporter of various community initiatives in the neighborhoods where its members live and work. Technology Credit Union’s involvement in the community includes charitable donations, food and toy drives, as well as fundraising and volunteer activities.

Highlights of Tech CU’s 2007 Community Involvement:

Tech CU Community Spirit Day

Tech CU held its first annual Community Spirit Day on March 6th and raised $4,116 in donations given by employees, members and a company match.   Tech CU collected donations from members and employees at its nine branches throughout the Bay Area and from individuals who attended the fair. All of the proceeds went go to Girls for Change, Resource Area for Teachers (RAFT) and City Team Ministries for programs and services that directly support children and their families in the Bay Area. Girls for a Change

Tech CU hosted a Supplies Drive on May 14-18, 2007. Tech CU members and employees joined together and donated much needed supplies such as: flip charts, sets of markers, white paper, colorful construction paper, notebooks, pens, arts/crafts/decorations, sticky note packages, glue sticks, catalog envelopes, and disposable cameras. In all, Tech CU was able to donate over 550 items to Girls For a Change.  Organization website.

Community Change Project: What Would You Change With $1,000?

Tech CU sponsored the Community Change Project on its newly launched blog, the Community Chatter Channel on June 27th.  Readers of the blog were given the chance to enter to win $1,000 for their favorite community-based organization.  The grand prize winner was Briana whose favorite organization was the Bring Me A Book Foundation which received the majority of the votes from both the blog readership and the Tech CU community development committee.  The Tech CU committee was so impressed with several of the other front-runner entrants that it granted $500 to both the Indus Entrepreneurs and the Think Global, Plant Local organizations.

African Library Project

Tech CU joined alliances with the African Library Project, an organization tasked with the endeavor to help start a library in rural Botswana.  On July 9-13, Tech CU held a successful book drive event at all of its financial centers. In toll, community members donated over 1,000 books, 354 backpacks and $225 in cash donations which were then earmarked for delivery to the 405 students and 14 teachers of Logaba Primary School in Kanye, Botswana.  Organization website.

People, Proud, and Progress of Newark.

On September 22-23 Tech CU helped celebrate the City of Newark’s 52nd birthday by participating in People, Proud, and Progress of Newark. The celebration included the gathering of businesses at the Community Center for community members to come see what the city has to offer. This event is just a sample of how the opening of Tech CU’s 10th financial center in Newark has been well received by the local community.
