    Using Online Banking

What are the requirements for Tech CU Online Banking?

All that is required to use Online Banking is internet access, a Tech CU account and a one-time activation code that will be emailed to you after answering a few verification questions.

For security reasons, we also require that you have a current and valid e-mail address on file with us. When you perform select transaction and information changes within Online Banking, we will send a confirmation email to the email address we have on record. To update your e-mail address, log into Online Banking and select "update profile".

    What costs are involved?

There is no cost and no limit for using Online Banking to access your accounts and perform most transactions. In addition, there are no service fees for using Bill Pay, eStatements, or eNotifications. There is a fee of $0.39 per Send Money Transaction as per our fee schedule.

There may also be fees that are related to a particular transaction initiated within Online Banking. For instance, if you place a stop payment or a check reorder, you will be charged the applicable fee, just as if you submitted the request in person or by phone.

What types of accounts can I access?

You can review account balances for any of your checking, savings, certificates, IRAs, auto loans, personal loans, equity loans, mortgages and held investments. You can access the history of any of these accounts by clicking on the account title on the balances screen. You can also perform most transactions on your accounts, such as transfers, check withdrawals, check orders and more.

    Send Money powered by PayPal™

How does Send Money Powered by PayPal work?

You can send money from your Tech CU account to another person through Tech CU's Online Banking and Mobile Banking. The service is powered by PayPal; you just have to specify the recipient's email address or cell phone number. For email address, recipients can be in the US and over 190 other countries. For mobile phone numbers, recipients can be in the US and many foreign countries. As of July 30, 2012, you can send money using just a mobile number to the following countries (country code):

    Australia (61), Canada (1), Denmark (45), Finland (358), France (33), Germany (49), Italy (39), Japan (81), Malaysia (60), Mexico (52), Netherlands (31), Norway (47), Poland (48), Russia (7), South Africa (27), Sweden (46), Singapore (65), Spain (34), Turkey (90), United Kingdom (44)

You can also save your recipient's information for future reuse.

There is a limit of $1,000 per day and $10,000 per month for outgoing Send Money transactions. There is a fee of $0.39 for each Send Money transaction. For details, please refer to the Tech CU Fee Schedule. The fee will be deducted from the same account on which the transfer takes place. If sufficient funds to cover the fee are not available in the account on which the transfer takes place, the transaction will not be completed.

To receive money, your recipient must have (or open a new) PayPal account. Your recipient has 30 days to claim the money. After 30 days, the money is returned to your Tech CU account; the fee is not refunded.

Do I need a PayPal account to send money with Send Money Powered by PayPal?

No, you don't need a PayPal account to send money.

Does the person I'm sending money to need to have a Tech CU account?

No, the person receiving money doesn't need to be a Tech CU customer. However, the recipient will need a PayPal account (or must sign up for a PayPal account if one does not exist) to access the money.

Does the person I'm sending money to need a PayPal account?

You can send money to almost anyone anywhere around the globe, anytime – even to someone without a PayPal account. However, to access the money, the recipient must have a PayPal account. When PayPal notifies the recipient that money has been sent, simple instructions on how to open a PayPal account are also included. That way, the recipient can quickly open an account if one does not already exist.

How do recipients actually get the money?

PayPal account holders receive money directly into their PayPal accounts. If recipients do not have a PayPal account, they simply open a PayPal account and link it with an email address or mobile phone number. Then, when recipients log in to PayPal, they can spend the money online at any merchant that accepts PayPal, transfer the money to an account at another financial institution, or request a check (fee applies for check request).

Will recipients be able to see my Tech CU account information?

No, recipients only see that you have sent money to them. Your financial information is secure. PayPal uses the highest levels of data encryption available, and meets or exceeds all Payment Card Industry compliance standards for data protection.

What happens if I send money, but the recipient doesn't get it?

If the email address or mobile phone number you entered for the recipient is registered to a PayPal account, the funds will be transferred immediately. You are responsible for entering the correct email address or mobile phone number for the recipient. If you type in an incorrect email address or mobile phone number, the payment can be canceled as long as the payment has not been claimed on the PayPal system. Once the payment is claimed, it cannot be canceled.

How long does it take the recipient to get the money?

Recipients are notified right away that they've received money. The funds transfer quickly to the recipient's PayPal account. Recipients without PayPal accounts are prompted to set one up. Once the account setup is complete, the funds will appear. Then, the recipient can transfer the funds to an account at another financial institution. While funds are transferred right away, it can take up to three business days for the funds to post to the recipient's other account.

    What happens to unclaimed payments?

If the recipient's email address or mobile phone number is not associated with a PayPal account and the recipient does not link it to an existing PayPal account or open a new PayPal account within 30 days, PayPal will return the unclaimed payment to Tech CU. Tech CU will process a payment return and return the money to your Tech CU account.

    Browsers and Security

Is Tech CU Online Banking Secure?

Yes. We have taken strong measures to ensure that your information remains confidential.

    Homepage Login

Using the Online Banking login on the techcu.com homepage is safe and secure. When you click the "Log In" button, your User Name is encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, keeping your information secure.

If you are at all uncomfortable with logging into Online Banking from the homepage, you always have the option of using the secure login page.

    Login Security

At Tech CU, we take a serious approach to your online account security. We require a Multi-Factor Authentication log in process. The first part of our online security process involves user authentication—how we identify you when you log into Online Banking and verify that you are an authorized user on the account you are trying to access.

    How We Authenticate:

    • User Name: As part of the Online Banking security enrollment process, you create your own User Name.
    • Password: In the Online Banking security enrollment process, you establish an alpha-numeric Password.
    • Registered Computer: For computers that you use regularly to access Online Banking, you will have the opportunity to "register" with us. Logging in using a known computer gives us another way of identifying you and makes for a shorter login process.
    • Challenge Questions: Select from numerous possible Challenge Questions and provide your own answers. Challenge Questions will be used to help identify you when you are logging into Tech CU Online Banking from an unknown computer.

With the increasing frequency and rising sophistication of phishing and spoofing attacks, we believe it has become equally important that you be able to confidently identify us. We want you to feel secure in the knowledge that you are conducting your financial business on the Tech CU Online Banking website and not a fraudulent copy.

That is why our login security process includes institution validation—how you verify that you are entering the legitimate Tech CU Online Banking website.

    How You Authenticate Us:

    • Welcome Phrase: You have the ability to create your own unique Welcome Phrase that will appear every time you log in—letting you know that you are entering the legitimate Tech CU Online Banking website.
    • Security Image: You will have your own unique image that will appear each time you log in. This will be yet another way you can tell that you are entering the legitimate Tech CU Online Banking website.

To access Online Banking, you will go through a one-time enrollment process, using your member number and one-time activation code that will be emailed to you, to set up all the elements listed above. The User Name and Password you create can be used from that point forward to access Online Banking. After enrollment, you will be able to update your login information within Online Banking at any time.

Quicken/Money Users: When accessing your accounts from Quicken or Money, use your member number as the "Customer ID/Member Number" and use your Password as your PIN.

    Transaction Security

When using Online Banking, applying for a loan, or submitting an online form, your information is encrypted using Secure Socket Layer Technology (SSL). With SSL encryption your information is protected while traveling from your computer to us.

When you perform select transaction and information changes within Online Banking, we will send a confirmation email to the email address we have on record. If you ever receive a confirmation email for a transaction or change that you did not authorize, please contact us immediately.

    Secure Email

If you want to send us an email containing important personal information such as your account number, please login to Online Banking and use our Secure Email feature. We will respond back to your inquiry through Online Banking, keeping your personal and financial information secure.

For general inquires, you can use our email contact form. We will respond back to the email address you enter.

Can my account be blocked from access over the Internet?

Yes, we can place a block on your account that will prevent anyone, including you, from accessing your account over the internet. The block will still enable you to use other electronic services such as Call-24 Phone Banking and ATMs. These services can also be blocked if you wish. To block access to Online Banking, please contact us.

Which browsers can I use to access Online Banking?

We strongly recommend the following which support the highest encryption methods available: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher, Firefox 9 or higher and Safari 5.0 or higher.
